Xbox 360 RROD - What Xbox 360 3 Red Light Error Fix Works Miracles?

Well once I first started researching a repair for my Xbox 360 RROD, I felt overwhelmed by the different information out there. You can find a gazillion sites, each selling their instructions (commonly $24.95. You can get some for free) and next you have the multitudes of YouTube videos claiming to have located the miracle remedy. The three that I am about to review are what appear to be amongst the most common (and many times most ridiculous).

Number #1 - The Towel Trick - It goes something similar to this: You take the hard drive off, wrap the entire device in a towel to avoid the surplus heat from escaping, turn the console on for about 15 minutes to cook (some instructions advocate 60 minutes), shut it down, unplug it for an hour, plug it back in and as promised it works. But why? I have not heard a decent explanation yet. Here is one of the explanations..."the machine gets so hot that it melts the solder that was cracking to the set off the red lights to start with"..... Let us discuss a couple of probable hazards as brought up in the same directions "could perhaps damage other parts of the Xbox".... "The unit could catch on fire it gets so hot". I can say I will rate this as the 2nd most idiotic Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death fix from the three in consideration. Recommendation: Do not use this fix.

Number #2 - The Ice Bath - I wouldn't even want to explain how to do this. Quite simply, a rubbermaid tub is full of ice water, some vinegar is put in, the Xbox 360 is unplugged and submerged within the water/vinegar mixture. After so many minutes the console is removed, drained of water and immediately plugged back in. Need I say more. I actually heard about a kid who attempted this and was severely shocked. This as lots of other fixes was presented as a youtube video. It is really quite reckless and should really be deleted. This fix is easily the most ridiculous fix of the three in consideration. Suggestion: Never even think about employing this repair for those who value your life.

Number #3 - X-Clamp Repair - This is the only genuine fix I have discovered thus far. It is as fixed as it gets. Don't use it if however your Xbox 360 is still under warranty. Send the console back to Microsoft and let them honor the warranty. On the other hand, if the seal is broken and/or it's not under warranty this fix is the best option. This is the repair in summary; you get into the console, remove the x-clamps, cleanup the old thermal paste, put brand new thermal paste on, swap the x-clamps with screws and washers, reassemble the console, overheat, allow it cool-down and it works on approximately 90% of the units. Suggestion: Use this Xbox 360 3 Red Light Error fix.
